The Glasgow Commonwealth Games marked another memorable chapter for Indian sport, as the country’s athletes brought home 39 medals in total, including 13 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze. The haul reflected both the depth of India’s sporting talent and the determination with which the contingent competed across disciplines.

From the athletics track to the wrestling mat, the shooting range to the weightlifting platform, Indian athletes produced performances that drew praise back home. The medal tally placed India among the strongest nations at the Games and reinforced the progress made through targeted support for athletes under programmes such as TOPS and Khelo India.

In a message congratulating the team, the Prime Minister expressed pride in the contingent’s performance at Glasgow. He noted that the athletes had displayed exceptional skill, determination and dedication throughout the Games, and that their hard work would continue to inspire the country’s youngsters to take up sport.

The Prime Minister also extended his best wishes to the entire Indian contingent for the endeavours ahead, expressing hope that they would continue to give their very best and bring further glory to the nation.

The 39-medal performance is being seen as more than a number. It is a sign that India’s investment in athlete development, coaching infrastructure and international exposure is translating into consistent results on the global stage. The successes in Glasgow are expected to build momentum as the country looks ahead to the Asian Games, World Championships and the Olympic cycle.

For fans across India, the Glasgow campaign offered moments of national pride and individual brilliance. The challenge now is to convert that momentum into sustained excellence, with the athletes themselves promising that Glasgow is only a stepping stone for bigger goals.
