An elite youth football academy run as a partnership between the Odisha Department of Sports and Youth Services and the All India Football Federation, backed by FIFA's Talent Development Scheme. The two sides signed their first agreement in November 2023 and renewed it for five years on 8 May 2026. AIFF leads the technical and operational side of player development, and the Odisha department provides institutional, financial and infrastructure support. AIFF reports that in under two years the academy produced a semi-final finish in the U17 AIFF Elite Youth League 2024-25, four players in the India U17 national team setup and a girl progressing to the India U19 Women's National Team.
PSPB Table Tennis Academy (Ajmer and Sonipat)
Run by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB), a public-sector sports board, not by a government department. Residential table tennis academy run by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board since 1995, first at Ajmer in Rajasthan in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India and the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). The boys' academy is now at Sonipat, Haryana, and PSPB has run a full sponsorship programme for girls with Delhi Public School, Sonipat and TTFI since the 2019-20 session. Players are chosen through selection trials. This is a public-sector sports board programme, not a government department scheme.
National Centre for Sports Coaching (NCSC)
Central sector scheme establishing a national coaching-education centre at NSNIS Patiala to build a comprehensive coaching development framework and produce high-performance coaches for SAI, states and national federations.
Recruitment of Meritorious Sportspersons to Group C Posts in the Central Government (DoPT Sports Quota)
Under instructions of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), central government ministries and departments can directly recruit meritorious sportspersons to Group C posts (including erstwhile Group D) that are filled by direct recruitment, in relaxation of the normal recruitment procedure. The list of qualifying sports has 65 disciplines (63 listed in 2020, with Tennis Ball Cricket added in January 2021 and Yogasana in June 2022). Kudo, Karate, Taekwondo, Golf, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, Badminton, Cricket and Tennis are among them. Railways and a few scientific and atomic-energy services follow separate rules.
Odisha Government Sponsorship of the Indian Kho Kho Teams (2025 to 2027)
The Government of Odisha announced a three-year sponsorship of the Indian national Kho Kho team, announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, under which the state invests ₹5 crore a year from January 2025 to December 2027, a total of ₹15 crore, with funding provided through the Odisha Mining Corporation. It follows Odisha's sponsorship of Indian hockey and was announced before the first Kho Kho World Cup in January 2025. The Kho Kho Federation of India welcomed it as a turning point for the sport. This is a state sponsorship of the national teams, not a scheme that individual players can apply to.
Out-of-Turn Promotion for Sportspersons and Coaches in the Central Government (DoPT)
A DoPT scheme under which central government employees who win medals in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games or World Championships (or set a record-breaking medal performance in the National Games) can be promoted out of turn by upgrading their post personal to them, up to three times in a career. Coaches whose trainees win medals in those events are also covered, and the scheme extends to equivalent events for differently-abled sportspersons. It does not apply to Railways services or to services under the Department of Atomic Energy, the Department of Space, the erstwhile Department of Electronics and the Scientific and Technical Services under DRDO.

SAI National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) Scheme
SAI sports promotion scheme launched in 1985 under which regular schools are adopted so that talented young sportspersons can study and play. A few sub-schemes under the NSTC, such as the akhara support for wrestling, reach out to specific talent pools.
ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme 2026-27, Podium Aspirants Category
ONGC, a public-sector company, invited online applications for its Sports Scholarship Scheme 2026-27 in the Podium Aspirants category, with a monthly scholarship of ₹40,000 to ₹70,000. The notice was published by the All India Tennis Association on 8 September 2026. The AITA notice does not list the sports covered; confirm the eligible sports with ONGC. This is a public-sector company scheme, not a government department scheme. It is separate from the ONGC scholarship round for younger players covered in the ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme entry.
Odisha CM Cup and Sambalpur Football Academy (under-14 residential training)
On 6 June 2026 Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a sanction of ₹15 crore for developing and modernising the Sambalpur Football Academy, including three full-size FIFA-standard football turfs and two futsal grounds. The academy will give residential training to 30 under-14 players selected every year from the grassroots through the annual CM Cup football tournament, and the government will arrange their schooling in nearby institutions.
Maharashtra Cash Prize Scheme for Medal-Winning Sportspersons and Coaches (revised 2026)
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved a revised and expanded cash prize scheme for medal-winning sportspersons and their coaches, reported on 24 August 2026. The scheme now covers the National Games, Khelo India, the Youth Olympics and Youth Paralympics, para-sports competitions and major international competitions, and coaches receive a share of their athletes' prize money.
Punjab 3% Reservation for Sportsmen and Sportswomen in State Government Jobs
The Government of Punjab has fixed a 3% direct quota in recruitment so that sportsmen and sportswomen of the state can get state government jobs, under its Sports Reservation Rules. The rules refer to Class III and IV state services; in 2018 the state's Sports Minister described the 3% reservation as covering state government jobs, boards, corporations, cooperative and statutory bodies and local authorities for graded sportspersons who are residents of Punjab and have represented the state at national level. Gatka was added to Punjab's State Sports Policy gradation list in 2015, so Gatka players can get gradation certificates and use this quota. In July 2025 an opposition MLA said the 3% quota had not been functioning since 2016; the government's position was not found, so check each recruitment notice.
BCCI Pension Scheme for Former Cricketers and Match Officials
Monthly pension paid by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to eligible former Indian cricketers (men and women) and umpires and other match officials. The scheme began in 2004 and the monthly amounts were raised in June 2022, benefiting around 900 people. It is run by the BCCI, not by the government.
AITA ACE 2032: Talent Identification, Selection and Support Policy for Junior Tennis
This is a federation policy, not a government scheme. Policy of the All India Tennis Association, approved by its Executive Committee and AGM on 30 September 2026 and effective from 1 January 2027, to identify talented junior players and recommend them for financial, technical, training, competition and welfare support from AITA, government agencies, public-sector organisations, sponsors and other approved partners. Selection is not based on ranking alone: it also considers performance, potential, physical and mental readiness, doubles ability and, where merit is comparable, financial need. Selected players are placed in five groups: National Performance, National Development, Regional Development, Emerging Talent and Doubles Development.
Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy of Excellence, Bhopal
A state sports academy of the Madhya Pradesh Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, inaugurated in January 2007 in Bhopal, which trains athletes in sailing, rowing, kayaking, canoeing and canoe slalom. The department's page says that training uses the Upper Lake for rowing and sailing and the Lower Lake for kayaking and canoeing, with a natural slalom course at Maheshwar, modern hostel accommodation, a fitness centre, a physio room, a practice pool and coaching staff. The academy keeps boarding and day-boarding player records, including for 2025-26. The Chief Minister said in 2026 that Madhya Pradesh has 11 sports academies covering 18 disciplines.
NTPC CSR Archery Development Programme: AAI Accreditation of Schools and Academies
NTPC Limited committed ₹115 crore over five years from its CSR budget for the development of archery in India, under an agreement signed with the National Sports Development Fund and the Sports Ministry. Of this, ₹15 crore was a one-time spend on field targets, training centres and equipment such as bows and arrows, and ₹100 crore (about ₹20 crore a year) was for recurring costs: grassroots development, training of identified and elite talent, coach development, equipment, a sports science lab, scholarships and prize money for high performers, and foreign training and exposure for sub-junior and junior archers. Under this CSR scheme the Archery Association of India invites Expressions of Interest from schools and academies across India for accreditation; selected schools and academies receive financial support for five years. In July 2025 Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister said that NTPC would invest ₹20 crore in two archery academies in Jashpur and Raipur. This is NTPC's CSR funding, not a government department scheme.

National Golf Academy of India (NGAI): Golf Coach Certification (Indian Golf Union)
The National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) is part of the Indian Golf Union and is the official body for certification of golf teaching professionals in India. It was set up in 2004 with the help of The R&A and has been based at the Chandigarh Golf Association range since 2008. It certifies coaches at four levels (Category D, C, B and A) through a Playing Ability Test, courses and exams, and runs refresher courses and a teaching summit for continuing education. NGAI also serves as the training centre for the Indian national squads and the Elite Player Development Programme in conjunction with the IGU. This is a federation programme, not a government scheme.
TOPS Out-of-Pocket Allowance for Senior Hockey Players in National Camps (₹25,000 a Month)
In June 2025 the Sports Ministry's Mission Olympic Cell approved a monthly out-of-pocket allowance of ₹25,000 for 80 senior hockey players, 40 men and 40 women, who are in the national camps under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). It was reported as the first time this allowance was extended to hockey players at the TOPS development-group rate. The allowance costs about ₹20 lakh a month. The men's and women's teams were selected in the TOPS core group in 2023, but because of the large pool of players they receive the development-group rate rather than the ₹50,000 paid to core group athletes.

Central sector scheme (2022-23 to 2025-26) funding fellowships, seminars, foreign experts, research grants and sports publications to build sports science, coaching and technical expertise in India.
IndianOil Divyashakti Para-Sports Scholarship Scheme
Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), a Government of India enterprise, offers 100 para-sports scholarships (50 for men, 50 for women) in two categories, Para Scholar and Elite Para Scholar, across 16 para games including badminton. This is a public-sector company scheme, not a government department scheme. A scholarship runs for a maximum of three years, with a performance review after each year.
National Centre for Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR)
Central sector scheme (formerly IISSR) supporting high-level sports science research, education and innovation for elite athlete performance, anchored at NSNIS Patiala with support to selected universities and medical colleges.
Khelo India ASMITA Women's Leagues (including the ASMITA Football League)
ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women), earlier called the Khelo India Women's League, is a Khelo India initiative started in 2021 to increase women's participation in sport and to identify new talent. SAI supports the national sports federations in conducting the leagues across age groups at zonal and national level. For 2025-26, 852 leagues were planned in 15 sports disciplines for more than 70,000 women athletes across all States and Union Territories, up from 550 leagues in 27 disciplines and 53,101 women athletes in the previous season. The ASMITA Football League 2025-26 was inaugurated on 10 August 2025 in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, with support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Western India Football Association. Kickboxing leagues were also held under ASMITA in 2025-26 (zonal leagues in the North, West and South zones and a national league) by the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation, the national federation for kickboxing recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Maharashtra 5% Reservation for Meritorious Sportspersons (revised policy, 2026)
On 8 September 2026 the Maharashtra Cabinet approved a revised policy for the 5 per cent parallel reservation for meritorious sportspersons in direct recruitment in state government and semi-government bodies. Sports included in at least three consecutive Summer Olympic Games after 2005 qualify, and Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Chess, Mallakhamb and Cricket have been added as regional sports. Under the revised policy, sports certificates must be verified through a digital Sports E-Certificate system within three months, and earlier government resolutions on the quota were rescinded.
ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), a Government of India enterprise, gives monthly scholarships to economically weaker young sportspersons who have the potential to excel in sport, in games including badminton, boxing, wrestling, kabaddi, chess, athletics and para sports. This is a public-sector company scheme, not a government department scheme. A scholarship is awarded for one year and can be extended up to two years based on annual performance. The number of scholarships is fixed game by game; for the 2025-26 round, for example, badminton had 6 (3 for men and 3 for women) and kabaddi had 20.
NHPC Sports Scholarship Scheme for Upcoming Sportspersons
NHPC Limited, a Government of India enterprise, offers a sports scholarship to promising young players aged 14 to 19 years (14 to 24 years for para sports) in 16 games, to encourage their talent and build a talent pool during their formative years of education. This is a public-sector company scheme, not a government department scheme. Up to 32 scholarships are provided, two in each game, in two categories, Elite Scholar and Scholar, for a period of three years.
Incentives for Central Government Employees in Sporting Events (DoPT): Special Leave, Duty Status and Special Increments
DoPT instructions (OM No. 6/1/85-Estt.(Pay-I) of 16 July 1985 and later orders) give Central Government employees special casual leave, on-duty status with travel allowance, and special increments in personal pay for taking part in sporting events and for excellence in them. Tournaments conducted by recognised National Sports Federations and the National Games count as events of national importance. In October 2025 DoPT added the Ju-Jitsu Association of India (recognised by the Sports Ministry as a national sports federation on 29 July 2021) to its list of recognised federations for these incentives.
Target Asian Games Group (TAGG): Individual Support for Asian Games 2026 Medal Prospects (SAI)
SAI's TAGG division was disbanded in May 2026; the programme was built for the 2026 Asian Games. The Target Asian Games Group (TAGG) was a Sports Authority of India high-performance programme, modelled on the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), that gave individualised support to medal prospects for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. It was launched in 2025 with 37 athletes in 16 disciplines, 10 Olympic and 6 non-Olympic, and the Mission Olympic Cell added athletes later, for example in tennis, taekwondo, karate, gymnastics and soft tennis. TAGG did not replace TOPS; it focused on sports where India has regional potential but has yet to convert it into Olympic success. On 19 May 2026 SAI's Director General re-arranged its divisions and disbanded the TAGG division; its work was redistributed between the TOPS division, which now manages 27 disciplines and the participation coordination for the Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games, and the Training of Elite Athletes and Management Support (TEAMS) division, which handles para, winter and non-Olympic disciplines. The Asian Games 2026 were held in September and October 2026. Check with SAI whether TAGG-style support continues.
National Centre of Excellence for Swimming, Amingaon, Guwahati (Assam Government and SAI, 2026)
The National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Swimming at the Amingaon Sports Complex in Kamrup district was inaugurated on 28 August 2026; the news reports describe the arrangement but publish no admission rules yet. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the centre, built by the Assam Government at a cost reported as ₹50 crore. An agreement signed on 29 August 2026 hands the operation of the centre to the Sports Authority of India for 30 years, according to the Chief Minister; the news reports name SAI, the Sports Authority of Assam and the Badminton Association of India as the signatories. SAI will manage the centre, recruit coaches and support staff, provide sports equipment and organise training camps and competitions. It is the first NCoE for swimming in the North East. The complex has an Olympic-size competition pool, a practice pool, diving facilities, seating for about 1,500 spectators and a gym.
Madhya Pradesh ₹1 Crore Reward, Government Job and Academy Reservation for Para-Athletes (announced 2024)
These are announcements made after the Paris 2024 Paralympics, not a published scheme document. On 24 September 2024, after the Paris Paralympics, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a cash reward of ₹1 crore and a government job for each Paralympic medallist from the state; the first beneficiaries named were judoka Kapil Parmar (India's first Paralympic judo medallist, bronze in the men's 60kg J1 class) and shooter Rubina Francis. The state had earlier announced ₹1 crore for Olympic medallists. State Sports Minister Vishvas Sarang also announced a reservation for para-athletes in the state's eleven sports academies and a plan for a talent-search programme to scout young para-athletes. These are announcements reported by the news; no government order was found.
AIPSSPB Sports Scholarship Scheme (All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board)
Run by the All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board (AIPSSPB), not by a government department. Scholarship scheme of the All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board to encourage young, talented sportspersons in line with the objectives of the National Sports Policy. The total number of awardees is capped at 20, and table tennis is one of the games covered. Aspirants are identified by AIPSSPB's national game coordinators on their past and current performance, and a select committee of the board's General Secretary, the game coordinator and an outside expert of national or international level recommends names to the President of AIPSSPB for approval. This is a public-sector sports board scheme, not a government department scheme.
Haryana Khel Nursery Scheme (Sports Nursery Scheme)
State scheme under which Haryana government and private high and senior secondary schools run sports nurseries in Olympic, Asian, Commonwealth and National Games disciplines, including wrestling. Selected young players receive a scholarship/diet allowance and coaching, coaches receive an honorarium, and the school receives support for equipment.
SAI Centre of Excellence (Para), Netaji Subhas Western Centre, Gandhinagar
A Sports Authority of India Centre for Para Sports under its National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) Scheme at the SAI Netaji Subhas Western Centre (Regional Centre) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. A Ministry reply in the Rajya Sabha (24 March 2022) says the centre is operational in athletics, swimming, powerlifting and table tennis, and a reply of 6 February 2025 says the centre is actively training para athletes in athletics, swimming and other listed disciplines (the available text of that reply is cut off after swimming). An older SAI circular described a Centre of Excellence (Para) scheme at this centre with a strength of 65 para athletes (40 boys and 25 girls) in athletics, badminton, powerlifting, swimming and table tennis; badminton is not in the Ministry's 2022 list, so check which disciplines are current. A 2025 Press Information Bureau release says para athletes train at SAI centres in Sonepat and Gandhinagar with coaches, nutritionists, diet and recovery support.
Haryana Provision of Sports Equipment Scheme 2025-26
State scheme under which the Haryana Sports Department provides sports equipment to Gram Panchayats and municipal bodies, to encourage young people to take up sports such as volleyball, football, basketball, handball, boxing, wrestling, judo and cricket. The department's website lists editions for 2023-24 and 2025-26.
Arjuna Award for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games
Recognises consistently outstanding performance by a sportsperson over the four years immediately preceding the award year, together with qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and discipline.
Biju Patnaik Sports Award

Update, October 2026: Cash awards are paid under the Himachal Pradesh Sports Council Cash Award Rules, 2024. For the 2026 Asian Games the state announced about ₹5.33 crore for its medal winners on 28 September 2026; four Himachal players in India's gold-winning women's kabaddi squad were to receive ₹33.33 lakh each, with the team award shared in proportion to participation. On 5 October 2026 the Chief Minister announced a larger award of at least ₹1 crore each, plus government jobs, for three of those players, and ₹1 crore for cricketer Renuka Thakur; this was a special announcement, not a change to the rules. The state says 99 sportspersons have been given jobs under its 3% sports quota. The rules themselves were not opened; these details come from PTI reports.

Revamped Khelo India Scheme & Enhanced ANSF (2026–31)
The Union Cabinet approved an expanded Khelo India Scheme along with enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) with a combined outlay of Rs. 36,441 crore for 2026-27 to 2030-31 — nearly eight times the previous Khelo India outlay. It creates a seamless athlete pathway from school playgrounds to the Olympic podium, adds the Emerging Khelo India Athletes (E-KIA) category expanding the structured athlete pool nearly ten-fold, introduces Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas, sets up a National Coach Accreditation Board and a unified digital sports platform, and strengthens funding to national federations for coaching, sports science, equipment and international exposure.

DISCONTINUED — historical reference only. RGKA replaced the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) with effect from 1 April 2014 to build panchayat and block-level sports infrastructure and rural competitions. It was subsequently subsumed into the Khelo India scheme; no fresh applications are accepted. Apply under Khelo India instead.
