Note: Instituted in 1956-57 to promote competitive sport in the university sector. Marks are computed from performance in international, national and inter-university competitions, with additional weight for popularity-based disciplines (the guidelines name chess, kho-kho and cricket among them) — 100 marks for a 1st place, 67.5 for 2nd and 33.75 for 3rd on the notified scale. A separate fund of ₹20 lakh per year is provided for administering the selection process.

  • Performance in inter-university and national/international competitions of the preceding year, computed as per the scheme's marking proforma
  • Application must be signed by the Vice-Chancellor
