Note: Erstwhile Indian Institute of Sports Sciences and Research (IISSR). Six universities and four medical colleges were selected in the first phase; students apply to those institutions, not to the Ministry.

Eligibility

  • Institutional scheme — universities and medical colleges are selected by the Department of Sports
  • Students apply directly to the selected universities/medical colleges for the sports science and sports medicine courses

Benefits

  • NCSSR established at Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala
  • Grants to sports science departments in select universities (₹107 crore for NCSSR)
  • ₹237 crore for sports sciences and sports medicine departments in selected universities and medical colleges
  • Funds MD (Sports Medicine) and Diploma in Sports Medicine courses and M.Sc programmes in exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and sports psychology
