- Corpus fund established in November 1998 under the Charitable Endowments Act, 1890. Assistance is project-based — special training and coaching for athletes, coaches and sports specialists, construction and maintenance of sports infrastructure, equipment supply, sports research and development, international exchanges, and low-interest or interest-free loans for qualifying projects.

Note: Applications are considered against the NSDF guidelines/norms and approved by the Fund's Council, chaired by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports; certain relaxations require the Chairperson's approval with reasons recorded.

Who can receive NSDF support?+
Elite Indian athletes, national federations and identified projects for excellence at Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth level, assessed against the NSDF guidelines/norms for financial assistance.
Is NSDF the same as TOPS?+
No. TOPS is a separate scheme that is funded through NSDF; NSDF itself is the corpus fund and its Council approves the projects it supports.
