Overview
A sub-scheme of the National Welfare Schemes for Sportspersons (amended 10 October 2023) providing financial assistance to sportspersons, coaches and support personnel living in indigent circumstances, and to families of deceased sportspersons.

- Age
- No fixed age bar. Applicant must be a sportsperson (or the family of one) in indigent circumstances — income below ₹8 lakh per annum from all sources. Regular government/PSU employees are not eligible.

- Indigent circumstances: up to ₹5 lakh · Families of deceased sportspersons: up to ₹5 lakh · Medical treatment: up to ₹10 lakh · Injuries in training/competition: up to ₹10 lakh · Training, equipment and event participation: up to ₹2.5 lakh · Coaches and support personnel: up to ₹2 lakh (₹4 lakh for their medical treatment). Discretionary sanction up to ₹20 lakh by the Minister in deserving cases.

Note: Apply online on the MIS-DBT portal dbtyas-sports.gov.in. SAI files its verification report within 10 working days; the Ministry targets disposal within 45 working days. Applications are decided by an Executive Committee chaired by Secretary (Sports).
Eligibility
- ▸ Indigent circumstances — no source of income or income below ₹8 lakh per annum from all sources
- ▸ Retired sportspersons with senior-category medals in the National Games or National Championships of a recognised NSF, or participation in the Olympics, Paralympics, Deaflympics, Asian Games, Para Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cup/Championship, Asian or Commonwealth Championship as part of the Indian contingent
- ▸ Injury assistance also covers junior and sub-junior categories of those competitions
- ▸ Coaches, sports doctors, psychologists, mentors, physiotherapists, masseurs, umpires, referees and match officials attached to NSF national camps or championships
- ▸ Regular employees of Central/State/UT Governments, PSUs and government autonomous bodies are not eligible
Benefits
- ✓ Sportspersons in indigent circumstances: up to ₹5 lakh
- ✓ Families of deceased sportspersons: up to ₹5 lakh
- ✓ Medical treatment of sportspersons or dependants: up to ₹10 lakh
- ✓ Injuries sustained in training or competition: up to ₹10 lakh
- ✓ Training, equipment and participation in national/international events: up to ₹2.5 lakh
- ✓ Coaches and support personnel: up to ₹2 lakh (up to ₹4 lakh for their medical treatment)
- ✓ Discretionary sanction of up to ₹20 lakh by the Minister in deserving cases
Documents required
- ▪ Online application on the MIS-DBT portal (dbtyas-sports.gov.in)
- ▪ Income certificate issued or verified by the competent authority
- ▪ Achievement certificates verified against official records
- ▪ Date-of-birth proof
- ▪ Medical or injury records where assistance is sought on those grounds
- ▪ Proof of relationship/dependency for family applicants
