Note: Traditional wrestling akharas are formally adopted by SAI (around 40–50 nationally) as part of the NSTC Scheme, launched 1985, to modernise indigenous wrestling training alongside coaching from NSNIS-trained coaches.
Eligibility
- ▸ Registered Akharas with functional facilities
- ▸ Minimum number of regular trainees (usually 20+)
- ▸ Availability of space for installation of mat/gym equipment
Benefits
- ✓ One-time grant for multi-gym or wrestling mats
- ✓ Services of a qualified SAI coach at the Akhara
- ✓ Annual stipend of ₹1,000 per trainee for up to 20 trainees
