Sourcing caveat: The department confirms 8 operating centres — Sangli and Pravaranagar closed in 2019. We deliberately publish NO centre location list: a nine-name list appeared in one research pass and could not be re-confirmed against the department, so publishing it risked sending an athlete to a centre that does not exist. The 16 sports are stated as a count by the department, not as a named list. Balewadi itself is a venue, departmental headquarters, Krida Prabodhini centre and Maharashtra's Khelo India State Centre of Excellence — not a separately named academy.

No disciplines are published for this centre.

Its parent body lists the centre but leaves the discipline column blank, so there is nothing we can tell you about what is coached here. We will publish the list the day it is notified.

Hostel & residential

Residential hostel available

Of 492 trainees in 2025-26, 435 are residential (278 boys, 157 girls) and 57 are non-residential. The attached school at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune runs classes 1 to 12 and is fully funded.

Fees

No fee applies.

This is a government-funded centre. Selected athletes are not charged a training fee — boarding, lodging, coaching, diet and sports-science support are provided by the scheme. No fee schedule is published because none applies.

Getting in, not paying, is the barrier here: see the admission process below.

Age limit

Not published.

No official source states an age eligibility range for this academy. Ask the academy directly: its official website (https://mahasports.maharashtra.gov.in/).

Admission process

  1. Direct entry for athletes with state-level performances or national participation.
  2. All other candidates take sport-specific skill tests.
  3. Selected trainees join a Krida Prabodhini centre; residential trainees are schooled at the attached Balewadi school, classes 1 to 12.
