About
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) is the national governing body for the sport of chess in India. Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the AICF is affiliated to the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Asian Chess Federation, and is recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole national federation for the sport. AICF selects the Indian teams that participate in the FIDE Chess Olympiad, the World Team Championship, the FIDE World Cup, the FIDE Grand Swiss, the Asian Games chess event, the Asian Team Championships, the Asian Nations Cup and all age-group World Youth and World Junior Championships. Domestically the AICF conducts the National Championship (senior), the National Women's Championship, the National Challengers, the National Premier, the National Team Championship, the National School Chess Championship and the Age-Group Nationals (U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19). In 2022 AICF hosted the 44th Chess Olympiad at Mamallapuram near Chennai — the first Olympiad ever held in India — with more than 180 federations participating. AICF works with recognised state chess associations across India and administers arbiter, trainer and organiser education programmes aligned with FIDE certification pathways.
