About
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in India. Founded in 1920 and headquartered in New Delhi, AITA is affiliated to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Asian Tennis Federation, and is recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole national federation for the sport. AITA selects and manages the India Davis Cup team, the India Billie Jean King Cup team (women's), the India Junior Davis Cup and Junior Billie Jean King Cup teams (U-16), the Junior Fed Cup / Davis Cup U-14 teams and India's participation at the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Asian Tennis Championships and all ITF-sanctioned events. Domestically it sanctions the ATP and WTA tour events staged in India — currently the Chennai Open Challenger, the Bengaluru Open and other ATP Challenger Tour and ITF World Tennis Tour events — together with the AITA Talent Series, Championship Series, Super Series and National Series tournaments that build the domestic ranking pyramid. AITA also conducts the National Tennis Championships, the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship and age-group Nationals (U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18), and runs coach, referee and umpire education programmes aligned with ITF certification.
