Badminton Association of India

Founded 1934 · Recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

About

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) is the national governing body for badminton in India. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in New Delhi, it is affiliated to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia, and is recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole federation responsible for the sport at national level. BAI selects the senior men's and women's national teams and all age-group teams (U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19) for participation at the Olympic Games, the BWF World Championships, the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, the Sudirman Cup, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and all Badminton Asia and BWF-sanctioned tournaments. It sanctions and staffs the BWF World Tour event held annually in India — currently the India Open Super 750 — along with the Syed Modi International, Odisha Open and other BWF International Series events hosted in the country. Domestically, BAI conducts the Senior National Championship, the Junior National Championship, the Sub-Junior Nationals, the Inter-State / Inter-Zonal team championships and the All India Ranking Tournaments that feed the national ranking used for team selection. The federation works with more than 30 state associations and operates coach, umpire and referee education pathways aligned with BWF certification.
