About
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of India and the apex multi-sport body for the country's participation in the Olympic Movement. Founded in 1927 by Sir Dorabji Tata and Dr A. G. Noehren, and headquartered at Olympic Bhavan in New Delhi, the IOA is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). The IOA is responsible for entering the Indian contingent — athletes, coaches and officials — at the Olympic Games (Summer and Winter), the Youth Olympic Games, the Asian Games, the Asian Winter Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth Youth Games and the Asian Beach and Indoor Games. Its General Body comprises recognised National Sports Federations, State Olympic Associations and other associated bodies, and its Executive Council is elected under a constitution revised in 2022 in line with the IOC's Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance and the Sports Code of the Government of India. The IOA also runs Athletes' and Athletes' Health & Wellness Commissions, an Athletes' Ombudsman and the Anti-Doping and Ethics functions expected of an NOC. It coordinates the National Games of India and works with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on national sports policy.
