About
The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) is the national governing body for aquatic sports in India, covering swimming (pool and open water), diving, water polo and artistic swimming. Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, the SFI is affiliated to World Aquatics (formerly FINA) and Asia Aquatics, and is recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole national federation for aquatics. The SFI selects the Indian senior and age-group teams for the Olympic Games, the World Aquatics Championships, the FINA / World Aquatics World Cup series, the Asian Games, the Asian Aquatic Championships, the Asian Age Group Championships, the Commonwealth Games and all continental events across the four aquatic disciplines. Domestically it conducts the Senior National Aquatic Championships each year, the Sub-Junior and Junior National Aquatic Championships across the Group I, II, III and IV categories, the Federation Cup Senior Nationals, the National School Games aquatics events and open water national championships. The SFI works with state swimming associations and services boards across India, and runs coach, referee and technical official education programmes aligned with World Aquatics certification, together with high-performance training programmes for identified national squad athletes.
