About
The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) is the national governing body for the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting in India. Established in 1947 and headquartered in Patiala, Punjab — home of the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports — the IWLF is affiliated to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the Asian Weightlifting Federation, and is recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole national federation for weightlifting. The IWLF selects the Indian senior men's and women's national teams, together with U-23, U-20 and U-17 age-group teams, for participation at the Olympic Games, the IWF World Weightlifting Championships, the IWF Junior and Youth World Championships, the Asian Games, the Asian Weightlifting Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. Domestically the IWLF conducts the Senior Men's and Women's National Weightlifting Championships, the U-23, Junior (U-20) and Youth (U-17) Nationals, the Sub-Junior Championships, the Inter-State Championships and ranking tournaments that feed the national squad. The federation works with state weightlifting associations across India, operates through the national coaching centres at Patiala, Aurangabad and Imphal, and administers technical official, coach and referee education aligned with IWF pathways.
