Ju-Jitsu is listed on SportSupport in the combat category. Its recorded origin is Japan. It is not on the Olympic programme. We list Ju-Jitsu Association of India as the Indian governing/organising body for the sport.
Ju-Jitsu has a federation and state-level pathway in India, and athletes selected through Ju-Jitsu Association of India may be eligible for state sports-quota employment and state cash awards where their state notifies the discipline. TOPS does not apply, as the discipline is outside the Olympic programme.

- Khelo India Talent Identification & Development (KITID)

- National Sports Development Fund (NSDF)

Sport ju-jitsu under the Ju-Jitsu International Federation is contested in several distinct disciplines. Fighting (Jiu-Jitsu) bouts run in three phases — striking at distance, throws and takedowns, then groundwork — with points awarded in each phase and a bout ended early if a competitor builds a 14-point lead or scores a submission. Ne-Waza is pure grappling without strikes, scored on positional advantage (passes, mounts, back control) and won outright by submission via choke or joint lock. Duo and Show Ju-Jitsu are demonstration formats in which pairs perform defences against called attack series and are judged on realism, control and effectiveness. Strikes to the spine, small-joint manipulation and slamming are fouls, and age-group divisions restrict which locks and chokes are legal.
Authoritative rulebook: Ju-Jitsu Association of India. Age-group and school-level variations are published by SGFI and the state associations each season.

Major Indian Events

- National selection trials
Organized by the Ju-Jitsu Association of India (JAI), affiliated to the Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF) and the Ju-Jitsu Asian Union (JJAU, a member of the Olympic Council of Asia). JAI runs a continuous cycle of open trials across age groups (U-16 through Adults, plus Masters and Para) feeding selection for Asian, South Asian and Youth Asian Games teams. A separate body, the Sport Jiu-Jitsu India Federation, also operates in this space under a different international affiliation (SJJIF) — the same multi-body pattern seen in several other Indian combat sports.

Recent editions of the Asian Championship have been dominated by Thailand, the UAE and Kazakhstan — specific Indian medal results at these events could not be confirmed from available sources.

Common questions about ju-jitsu in India.
Who governs Ju-Jitsu in India?▾
We list Ju-Jitsu Association of India as the Indian governing/organising body for Ju-Jitsu, and state associations affiliated to it run age-group and state-level competition. We hold no current-year Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports recognition record for it, so this is not a statement that it is currently a recognised national sports federation — recognition is granted year by year.
Is Ju-Jitsu an Olympic sport?▾
No, Ju-Jitsu is not on the Olympic programme.
How do I start playing Ju-Jitsu in India?▾
The usual routes are a school team under the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), a college team under the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), or a private academy affiliated to your state association under Ju-Jitsu Association of India. Age-group state championships follow from there.
What government schemes support Ju-Jitsu athletes?▾
TOPS does not apply, as Ju-Jitsu is outside the Olympic programme. State-government cash awards or sports-quota employment can apply where a state notifies the discipline, which varies by state. Ju-Jitsu does not appear on the official Khelo India Games discipline list, so we make no Khelo India claim for it.
