Reviewed profileAchievements, tournaments, coaches and FAQs on this page are compiled by hand from federation, government and press reporting, drawing on Tennis Volleyball Federation of India (tennisvolleyball.com), Give.do — Tennis Volleyball Federation of India nonprofit listing. These are not cited to individual documents: we hold no per-claim source for them, so treat dates, counts and career records here as a summary rather than a reference. Sections we hold nothing for are left empty. Sport pages last reviewed as a set: September 2026.

Tennis Volleyball does not appear on the official Khelo India Games discipline list, and we hold no verified central pathway or current-year Ministry recognition record for it, so we make no Khelo India, TOPS, National Sports Development Fund or pension claim. Whatever competition exists is run by clubs, akharas, private promoters or state-level bodies. (Checked against Sports Authority of India / Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports — Discipline wise Participation in all editions of Khelo India Games (19th Edition).)

Rules

Tennis volleyball is played on a tennis-sized court with a net raised between the two halves, combining volleyball's rally structure with tennis's court markings and service pattern. The ball is played over the net with the hands, and teams — commonly of two to four players a side — may use a limited number of touches before returning it, with the point lost if the ball is grounded in the court, sent out of bounds or driven into the net. Play is scored in sets on a rally-point basis, with service rotating between sides. Because the court is smaller than a volleyball court and the net lower than in tennis, the game rewards placement, wrist control and quick lateral movement rather than power hitting.

Major Indian Events

Domestic competitions we hold a source for in tennis volleyball.

  • National Tennis Volleyball Championship

Organized by the Tennis Volleyball Federation of India (established 2012, headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra), reaching at least its 18th edition by 2017. The sport has a genuine, if regionally concentrated, competitive base — the 2017 national final was contested between Maharashtra and Gujarat, with strong intra-state rivalries visible at the regional level (e.g. Sangli vs Solapur).

International Events

Continental and world-level competitions we hold a source for in tennis volleyball.

  • International presence

Not currently verified. We hold no source that documents Indian international participation in tennis volleyball, so we make no claim about it.

Leagues

No dedicated professional league is currently catalogued for tennis volleyball. The national championship under Tennis Volleyball Federation of India remains the top domestic competition.

The international federation for tennis volleyball maintains the current world ranking — check the federation site for the up-to-date top names.

Career Options

Ways to build a career in tennis volleyball — on the field, on the sidelines and behind the scenes.

  • Tennis volleyball remains a genuinely small, largely Maharashtra-centred sport in India with thin public documentation compared to more established racquet and team sports
  • Playing pathway through the federation's state and national championship structure
  • The sport's own promotional materials emphasize all-round fitness and enjoyment rather than professional or scholarship pathways

FAQs

Common questions about tennis volleyball in India.

Who governs Tennis Volleyball in India?▾

We list Tennis Volleyball Federation of India as the Indian governing/organising body for Tennis Volleyball, and state associations affiliated to it run age-group and state-level competition. We hold no current-year Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports recognition record for it, so this is not a statement that it is currently a recognised national sports federation — recognition is granted year by year.

Is Tennis Volleyball an Olympic sport?▾

No, Tennis Volleyball is not on the Olympic programme.

What government schemes support Tennis Volleyball athletes?▾

TOPS does not apply, as Tennis Volleyball is outside the Olympic programme. State-government cash awards or sports-quota employment can apply where a state notifies the discipline, which varies by state. Tennis Volleyball does not appear on the official Khelo India Games discipline list, so we make no Khelo India claim for it.
