Virat Kohli has begun his preparations for India's upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. He has returned to intensive net sessions with the white ball and fitness drills, as he focuses on the 50-over format. The series begins on 4 November in Auckland.
Why the preparation matters
Kohli has retired from Tests and T20Is and plays only ODI cricket for India. With limited match practice, he relies on strong preparation in the nets and in the gym to stay ready.
What the New Zealand camp says
New Zealand assistant coach James Pamment called Kohli the "ultimate professional" and said experienced players should be left to decide their own futures in the build-up to the World Cup.
Kohli in India's squad
Kohli is in both of India's ODI squads for the tour, alongside Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill captains the first three ODIs, and Shreyas Iyer leads the final two.
