About
The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for India and the apex governing body for para-sports in the country. Established in 1992 and headquartered in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the PCI is affiliated to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC), and is recognised by the Indian Olympic Association and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports as the sole national body for para-sports. The PCI is responsible for entering the Indian contingent at the Paralympic Games (Summer and Winter), the Asian Para Games, the Commonwealth Games para events, the Youth Paralympic Games and all IPC and APC-sanctioned World Championships. It works with recognised para-sport national federations across athletics, badminton, table tennis, swimming, shooting, powerlifting, archery, judo, cycling, taekwondo, canoe, rowing, skiing, ice hockey and other disciplines to conduct athlete classification, national selection trials and ranking events. Domestically the PCI conducts the National Para Games, the National Para Athletics Championships and other national para-sport championships together with the discipline-specific federations, and runs classifier, coach and technical official education pathways aligned with the IPC. India's Paralympic contingent achieved a record medal haul of 29 medals (including 7 golds) at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
