Rules

Contested in two classes. SH1 is for athletes who can support the weight of the firearm themselves; SH2 is for those who cannot and who shoot from a spring-loaded stand, with an assistant permitted to load. Events cover 10m air rifle and air pistol plus 25m and 50m rifle, shot standing, kneeling or prone, and from a wheelchair or shooting chair where required. Scoring is by proximity to the target centre, with decimal scoring used in finals. Rifle events carry R designations and pistol events P designations.

Authoritative rulebook: Paralympic Committee of India. Age-group and school-level variations are published by SGFI and the state associations each season.

Paralympic Games
At Paris 2024 India won four para shooting medals — Avani Lekhara gold and Mona Agarwal bronze in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1, Manish Narwal silver in the men's 10m air pistol SH1, and Rubina Francis bronze in the women's 10m air pistol SH1. Lekhara's win made her the first Indian woman to defend a Paralympic title and the first to win three Paralympic medals. At Tokyo 2020 she took gold and bronze, with Manish Narwal winning gold and Singhraj Adhana a silver and bronze.
