Frequently asked questions
Can an athlete apply for TOPS directly?+
No. Athletes are nominated by their National Sports Federation and selected by the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on the basis of international ranking and medal probability at the next Olympic/Paralympic Games.
What is the difference between Core and Development groups?+
Core Group covers athletes assessed as medal prospects at the upcoming Olympics/Paralympics; the Development Group is a feeder pool of junior and emerging athletes with a longer runway.
Is TOPS funding separate from Khelo India?+
Yes. Khelo India supports grassroots and elite development; TOPS is the top of the pyramid for Olympic/Paralympic medal prospects and is funded largely through the National Sports Development Fund.
